Our Story

Our background

A proud Tradition

Ghion is a proud family-run restaurant, built on the desire to honour its owners’ Ethiopian roots. Co-founders Ayehu and John started Ghion with a shared vision: to introduce elements of Ethiopia’s tradition to the British people.

From the food to the culture and even the distinctive aromas of Ethiopian cuisine and coffee, they wanted to create a space that brings Ethiopia to life. One of the most special ways they’ve done this is through the hosting of traditional Ethiopian coffee ceremonies.

Here customers are able to immerse themselves in a unique cultural experience, and learn how Ethiopians typically prepare and enjoy coffee. It’s a heartfelt tradition that Ghion has maintained for years, and it helps showcase the rich history of the Ethiopian people.

Serving since 2001

Ghion Cafe has always been a gathering space for people from all walks of life. Whether it’s someone stopping by to unwind after a long day at work or families coming together for a special outing, the restaurant has always been a welcoming spot for everyone.

Many of these visitors come from different ethnicities and cultures, often excited to try Ethiopian food for the very first time. The large menu at Ghion also means that the many dishes they have to pick from cater to a wide range of dietary preferences. This means whether your a vegan or a meat-lover, there’s bound to be a dish for you!

It’s this combination of great food and an inclusive spirit that has kept people coming back for more, time and time again.
